Retreat Reflections

As you may know, I was up in Killarney Provincial Park this July to lead a wellness retreat for the second year in a row, with Meagan Walker of resilienceinmotion.ca

We did yoga on the dock every morning, hiking, canoeing / kayaking, connecting with nature, and workshops about meditation, mindfulness, motivation and building habits, and how to take better care of yourself both mentally and physically. We even did some forest bathing (my favourite)!

The retreat last year was an incredible experience. Extended time in nature always recharges me in a special way. It was also the first time I taught a yoga class in over 8 months and it felt really good. The workshops led to some amazing conversations, reflections and "a-ha" moments, and I felt completely in my element as a retreat leader. It really inspired me to try to bring some of that retreat feel back to Waterloo.

So as I headed north again this year, I was full of anticipation - hoping that I would have a similar week full of connection, filling my cup with calm time in nature, and inspiration.

As I mentioned, each year, on the "Mind + Body + Nature" retreat, I lead a workshop. This year it was all about Myth Busting. We had a great discussion about many of the different things I hear in my office everyday - common misconceptions about how the body works, exercise, our mind-body connection, mindfulness and meditation, and burnout. So many great topics came up!

Without really realizing what I was even saying, I started the session with "While I love to teach, what I really love is just having a conversation, and that's what I want this to be..."

And so, I've decided that's exactly what I want my Fall Retreat to be as well - a small group of 6-8 people, still gathering together to move, breathe, connect, and reflect - but with more opportunity to discuss, ask questions, and have a conversation - because that's when I think the real magic happens.

I don't know about you, but September always feels like the "new year" to me rather than January. Summer can be a really busy time if you have kids at home, or lots of vacation / social plans, or summer is a slower, relaxing time and then the fall feels like things pick up pace again. Either way, September is always a transition, and a great time to reflect and set intentions for how you want the rest of the year to go.

I want to create a space for you to be able to slow down, breathe, move your body, connect with your best self, so you can finish 2023 with clarity and calm.
